Basic Lawn Care

The best time to start or renovate a lawn is in the early autumn, when growth conditions are good and there is little competition from weeds. However, lawns can also be started in midspring. One way of looking at it is to view the trees, shrubs, and other plants as your garden furniture, and the lawn as the carpeting. An expanse of green lawn is attractive, provides a place to rest and play, and unites various parts of the garden. Although ground covers often are used in place of a lawn, a lawn is more often chosen if you want to walk in an area and not have bare ground.
