Scouting Things to do Next Week in Licking District - 23 Sept
1. Did you get that Tour Permit? - Going camping in
another council? Are you going to Burr Oak? Are you traveling to camp in a non-bsa
location in our district? Then you need a tour permit."If a unit plans a
trip within 500 miles of the home base, it is important that the unit obtain a
local tour permit. Most short, in-town den trips of a few hours do not require a
tour permit; however, it is recommended that dens obtain permission slips from
parents." This quote is in bold print in the guide to Safe Scouting and
denotes BSA rules and policies. It only takes a few minutes to fill out the form
and fax it to the scout office. (Fax # is 614-436-7917 It must be submitted no
less then 14 days before your trip. The tour permit form is available on line
at: http://www.scouting.org/forms/34426.pdf
2. Patrol Leader Training - If we expect your scouts to be
able to do their job well we have the responsibility to train them. Here is
another resource you can use to train your new Patrol Leaders. http://www.scouting.org/boyscouts/resources/18-800/index.html
3. Send your Pack to Mars - Well, not the whole pack, just
their names. This might be something you can use as you work on the Scientist
Activity badge in the Pack. http://spacekids.hq.nasa.gov/2003/
4. Backpacking Advice - Tired of lugging that monster pack down
the trail? Want to learn how to reduce the load on your back while still filling
your fun quotient? Then perhaps you would find it worthwhile to visit the source
or lightweight backpacking information. Plan on getting smart at Backpacking
101. http://www.backpackinglight.com/
5. Cub Bowl 2001 - No, it is not where OSU is going this year. It
is the Licking District Cub Scout Bowling League. Sound like fun? It is! It only
takes a few boys to put together a team for fun all winter. It makes a lot more
sense than baseball in the snow. Think about it, you could have a team per den.
This might even be one sport where the dads are able to beat the boys. Find the
details at: http://www.lickingdistrict.org/lickBowling%20Cubs.htm
6. Fall Camporee, 19 - 21 October - It's only a month away, have
you started to get your equipment ready? Be sure to come out and meet the men
who may soon be risking their all to eliminate the threat of terrorism. Soldiers
and Scouts camping in the night. Cubbers, bring out your boys to see the
camporee. http://www.lickingdistrict.org/lickcamporee.htm
7. Dawes Arboretum Fall Activities - Looking for a few really
interesting fall activities for your Pack? Then how about a trip out to Dawes
Arboretum in October for programs such as night hikes, fossil hunts, bike tour,
and preparing winter bird feeders. Visit Dawes now at: http://www.dawesarb.org/
8. Cub Scout Lock-in at the Newark YMCA, 13 October - The deadline
is fast approaching for this great fall event. Lots of indoor fun, swimming, and
food. Think about all those new scouts you are recruiting this month...this is a
great first event. Details at: http://www.lickingdistrict.org/cubymcalockin.htm
9. Philmont Call In - Late October we will be meeting to call in
for Philmont 2003 reservations. Information on this effort will be passed out at
Roundtable in October. In the meantime, visit Philmont on line to plan the
adventure: http://www.scouting.org/philmont/main.shtml
10. Scout Nights with the Columbus Blue Jackets - Top rate hockey
with discount tickets. Not your normal winter outing a visit with the Blue
Jackets is a fast moving evening of fun. Check out their ticket prices and then
decide. http://www.scouters.org/scouters/dated/bluejack.htm
